Frequently Asked Questions
What does confidential and privileged mean?
Confidentiality is the protection of personal information. Confidentiality means keeping a student’s information between you and the student, and not telling others, including teachers, friends, family, school counselors etc.
Examples of maintaining confidentiality include:
- Individual files are locked and secured
- Nothing is shared by the SAC with others unless they have permission from the student.
- No information is told to people who do not need to know
- SAC counselors will only share if there is a concern about your safety.
If a SAC calls me to the Wellness Department, am I in trouble?
No! The Wellness Department does not discipline students. We can check up on you if something happens at school but you are never in trouble. SACs meet with students for many different reasons!
Will this go on my record / will colleges know I saw the SAC?
No, seeing the SAC does not go on any form of record.
What if I need more help?
If greater support is needed than the SAC counselor can provide, the Wellness Department can connect a student with an outside provider.
