“You cannot educate a child who is not healthy and you cannot keep a child healthy who is not educated”
- US Surgeon Jocelyn Elders, MDWelcome to the 2021-2022 School Year
Similar to last school year,in our effort to keep our school population healthy, we will be following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the State of New Jesey. We will be communicating closely with The Bergen County Department of Health and our local health office.
Physical Exams
An entrance physical is required from all Freshman students.
Prior to participation in a school-sponsored interscholastic or intramural athletic team, student-athletes must submit a completed pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) form. The exam should be conducted by a Health Care Provider (Licensed physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, or Physician Assistant) who has completed the Student-Athlete Cardiac Assessment Professional Development Module. The PPE must be conducted within 365 days prior to the first official practice of the athletic season. The physical exam form will be reviewed and cleared by the School Physician prior to the first day of practice. For further information please see the athletics website.
Health Screenings
Screenings will be conducted by the School Nurse. Screenings for height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and scoliosis will be conducted as per New Jersey State Code (N.J.A.C. 6A16-2.2). Contact the health office if you prefer that your child not be screened.
Medication Administration
Medication may only be given to students with a primary provider’s prescription and parental consent. Over-the-counter Tylenol and Tums may be given during the school day with parent consent and after a nurse assessment. Parents may provide an electronic signature on the form https://www.northernhighlands.org/cms/lib/NJ01000179/Centricity/Domain/279/Authorization for Medication EDITED.pdf available on the Genesis Parent Portal Page. Keeping us informed of any new medications, medical treatments, or immunizations your child may receive, will help us to keep each student’s health record current.
Epinephrine and Asthma inhalers
Please fill out all forms related to Epinephrine administration located on our website (physician orders, authorization for school delegates, and school personnel) Please see the medical forms tab on the upper left
