    WEEK 1

     

    Objectives:

     

    Students will:

    1.       demonstrate their ability to consistently hit the various shots utilized in the game of badminton.

    2.       demonstrate their understanding of the rules, scoring and rotation during a game of badminton.      

    3.       adhere to all safety rules while playing or transitioning to and from their assigned badminton court.                                

    Activities:

    • Warm-up exercises lead by the instructor - discuss muscle activation and muscle groups targeted
    • Skill instruction -  demonstrate a forehand, backhand, over head clear, deep drive, short drop, smash, long/short serve shot. Interact with all groups to correct any skills mistakes and assess student progress
    • By day 2, move to the courts and perform same skills with a net - no scoring involved
    • Tournament play will begin - 2 vs. 2

    Assessment

    • Student preparation for class and participation in all phases of each day's lesson.
    • Progress recorded on cards and in Genesis

     

     

     

     

    WEEK 2

     

    Objectives:

     

    Students will:

    1.       continue to progress in warm-ups with complexity and duration, along with the cardio run

    2.       demonstrate their ability to consistently hit the various shots utilized in the game of badminton.

    3.       demonstrate their understanding of the rules, scoring and rotation during a game of badminton.              

    4.       adhere to all safety rules while playing or transitioning to and from their assigned badminton court.                        

    Activities:

    • 8 to 10 minute exercise period with 1-2 days of a cardio run
    • Warm-up exercises lead by the instructor - discuss muscle activation and muscle groups targeted
    • Skill instruction -  demonstrate a forehand, backhand, over head clear, deep drive, short drop, smash, long/short serve shot as needed. Interact with all groups to correct any skills mistakes and assess student progress
    • Tournament play will continue - 2 vs. 2
