Course Description: This introduction to Criminal Law will involve the study of the agencies and processes involved in the criminal justice system, including the legislature, the courts, and the police. An analysis of the 4th, 5th, 6th & 8th Amendment considerations during police investigations, arrest, and while moving through the judicial system will be emphasized. The course will also consider the roles and problems of the criminal justice system in a democratic society.
This course will prepare students for post-secondary law and government courses and possible careers in law enforcement or the judicial system. In addition, a proficient understanding of America’s founding principles and legal system will assist the student in applying good citizenship skills in the American civil society.
