    Bergen County Division of Mental Health Services

    The mission of the BC Division of Mental Health Services (BCDMHS) is to assure that Bergen County residents of all ages, from youth to the aged, who need treatment for a mental illness have access to care, regardless of ability to pay, in compliance with the New Jersey Administrative Code [NJAC] 10:37.

    The Division aims to raise awareness that mental illness is a disease, not a choice.

     

    Bergen New Bridge Medical Center

    Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is a premier source for behavioral healthcare excellence and a teaching hospital with a very well-known and respected psychiatry residency program. Our diversified treatment programs offer individualized care in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Our professional team will conduct a thorough evaluation to help determine what is causing the distress and how we can best help. Our highly skilled medical staff will determine if there are any underlying medical or biochemical causes for the illness. The treatment team will, after defining the difficulty, work with the patient, family, and other healthcare professionals to develop a course of treatment. This interdisciplinary approach is unique to Bergen New Bridge and ensures the continuum of care throughout treatment.

     

    Care Plus NJ, Inc. 

    Care Plus NJ, Inc. (“CarePlus”) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides comprehensive, recovery-focused integrated primary and mental health care and substance abuse rehabilitation services. Our outpatient services are offered on a voluntary outpatient basis to adults and children at a total of 49 sites, including three outpatient centers (located in ParamusFair Lawn, and Hasbrouck Heights), ten residential facilities, offices at three local hospitals, and seven community offices, all conveniently located throughout Northern New Jersey.

     

    Christian Health Care Center

Whether it’s depression brought on by life circumstances or a more involved diagnosis, you don’t have to go through it alone. Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) was founded in 1911 by a group of deacons of the Reformed tradition who sought to address a topic that was rarely spoken of at that time: mental illness. 

     

    Crisis Text Line 

    Crisis Text Line is free, 24/7 support for those in crisis. Text 741741 from anywhere in the US to text with a trained Crisis Counselor. Crisis Text Line trains volunteers to support people in crisis. With over 100 million messages processed to date, we’re growing quickly, but so is the need.

     

    GLAAD

    GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.

     

    GLSEN

    GLSEN (pronounced "glisten") was founded in 1990 by a small, but dedicated group of teachers in Massachusetts who came together to improve an education system that too frequently allows its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) students to be bullied, discriminated against, or fall through the cracks. Over 25 years later, that small group has grown into the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ students. At GLSEN, we want every student, in every school, to be valued and treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We believe that all students deserve a safe and affirming school environment where they can learn and grow.

     

    JED Foundation

    JED is a nonprofit that exists to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. We’re partnering with high schools and colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention programs and systems. We’re equipping teens and young adults with the skills and knowledge to help themselves and each other. We’re encouraging community awareness, understanding and action for young adult mental health.

     

    National Institute of Mental Health 

    The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). NIMH envisions a world in which mental illnesses are prevented and cured. Their mission is to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.

     

    Suicide Prevention Lifeline

    We can all help prevent suicide. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. Counselors at locally operated crisis centers across the country answer all of the Lifeline’s calls and chats.1-800-273-8255.

     

    Teen Line 

    Established in 1980, TEEN LINE is a nonprofit, community-based organization helping troubled teenagers address their problems. It is our mission to provide personal teen-to-teen education and support before problems become a crisis, using a national hotline, current technologies and community outreach.

     

    The Trevor Project

    Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

     

     

    Valley Health/Valley Hospital

    The Valley Hospital’s social workers are available for hospitalized patients who need supportive counseling and/or crisis intervention services. If necessary, they may also coordinate other needed services, such as referrals to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, drug or alcohol treatment programs, support groups and more.

     

    West Bergen Mental Healthcare 

    Founded in 1963 as a Child Guidance Clinic, West Bergen has grown into a comprehensive mental health center serving the residents of Bergen County and beyond. Since its beginning, the Agency has grown to now serve approximately 3,000 individuals, couples and families each year. The Mission of West Bergen Mental Healthcare is to promote psychological health and personal growth.
